you can buy e-tanks and stuff at the "store" to make it easier. it's kind of lame that they put a half-hearted attempt at throwing in some rpg element in it like that, but it is pretty useful to have a beat bird and a few extra e-tanks on hand. also the upgrade that allows the flashing blue cameras (that's how i always saw them) to automatically fill up your lowest boss-weapon is pretty convenient.
